First Day Digital Access
First Day Digital Access (FDDA) Class Materials FAQs
What is the FDDA program?
Classes labeled as "FDDA" include a low-cost digital edition of the required textbook. The textbook charge is included at registration. This program allows students immediate access to their textbook and class materials when the class is made available on Canvas, typically on the first day of the quarter. No additional textbook purchase is required for FDDA classes if the student chooses to use the included digital copy and stays opted-in to the FDDA program.
I got a welcome email? What is this about?
Before the start of term, you will receive an email welcoming you to the program. This email will brief you on things you need to know regarding the FDDA materials.
What are the benefits to the program?
One benefit is access to class materials in Canvas on the first day of class. You are ready to go from day one! Another benefit is savings. FDDA charges are typically 10% to 20% less than regular digital material prices and 25% to 60% less than print. The FDDA program is designed to make you better prepared at a significantly reduced price, and without any additional required searching or purchasing for textbooks.
How will I be charged for this program?
The FDDA charge is included during registration for FDDA classes.
How do I access my FDDA class materials?
Your FDDA materials can be accessed via Canvas when your instructor makes the class available to you online. This is usually on the first day of the quarter.
What if I can't find the materials?
If you are having trouble accessing or finding your FDDA class materials on Canvas, we encourage you to reach out to your instructor for assistance.
What if I want a print copy?
Students who remain opted-in to the program can order a discounted print copy of the textbook, if the publisher has made one available. Note: not all FDDA e-books have a print companion. The discounted print copy can be purchased by finding your class in the Textbook Finder and is labeled as an optional purchase.
Orders for print copies will be processed after the Monday of the second week of classes. The Bookstore will verify you have not opted out and are eligible before completing your order.
Additionally, students can opt-out of the FDDA program and then are responsible for purchasing a print copy at regular price. The bookstore does not carry print copies for FDDA classes. Print copies will be a special order through the bookstore and typically take between 10-14 business days to arrive. Order print books early.
I ordered a print copy, but I got a Backorder notification?
Orders for discounted print copies are not processed until the Monday of the second week of classes.
Until then, your order will show up with a "Backorder" status. We will ship your order or make it available for pickup on or after the Monday of the second week of class, and you will receive an email notification once it is ready.
How do I opt-out (or in) to the program?
The deadline to opt out of the FDDA program is the Friday of the third week of the quarter. The college will issue refunds for students who opt out of the program after this deadline. Students may opt out (or in) to the FDDA program as many times as they please.
You can choose between three options to opt out of the FDDA program:
1. When you receive your FDDA program welcome email, you can click the link at the bottom of the email to opt-out of the program.
2. Simply go to the Textbook Comparison Tool, look up your class number, and then complete the form.
3. Once your class has begun, you can opt out in Canvas.
The opt out deadline is the Friday of the third week of the quarter. The college will issue refunds for students who opt out of the FDDA program after this date.
If my class materials include homework tools and I opt-out, will I lose the work I have already completed?
If you purchase the materials from a different source and use the same credentials (email) to access the materials, your work will be retained.
If you purchase the materials somewhere else or use different credentials, your work will be lost.
